EARLY CHILDHOOD ASSISTANT

Waldorf education lives in Kate! She is a proud Waldorf alumna of Waldorf schools in Texas, Tennessee, and California. Kate's mother taught Waldorf kindergarten and handwork for 30 years and Kate babysat many of those children and often helped her mother in the kindergarten.

Kate studied anthropology in college and traveled in New Zealand and Australia where she worked as an Au Pair in Sydney. As a Waldorf 3rd grader, harvesting the wheat her class had planted, Kate wanted to be a farmer. As an adult, Kate pursued landscape design and botany and worked as a horticulturalist and gardening teacher at Austin institutions including The Natural Gardener, The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, and the Sustainable Food Center. Kate created curriculum and taught gardening classes to adults and children on topics including herbal medicine, foraging, and native plants. Kate designed and directed a farm summer camp at Green Gate Farms in the old Bergstrom barn in far East Austin.

In 2020, Kate earned a masters degree in ecopsychology with a special interest in the garden as a sight of profound learning and healing. Kate is deeply interested in outdoor learning and forest school models. Kate is revisiting Waldorf education at a new depth now as a parent and she feels a strong call to pass along her experiences and knowledge as a Waldorf student on to the next generation of learners!
