A morning at Living Oaks
Childhood the way it should be: unhurried, curious, and rooted in the natural world.
✓ Your guide, A Waldorf Morning at Home, is on its way to your inbox.
While it arrives, here's how a morning unfolds for our students, from drop-off until lunch.
-
First
The walk to class
Every morning, our kindergarten teacher walks the kindergartners hand in hand down our winding limestone path, beneath the old oaks, toward their classroom and the day ahead.
-
Then
Morning movement
Before lessons begin, the children run, play, and move together in the open field, with plenty of sky and room to breathe.
-
Main lesson
A chalkboard drawn by hand
The main lesson begins at the board. Our teachers draw these murals by hand, and the children's own work grows out of it.
-
Next
Hands at work
From the board to the table: the class paints, models and builds together at the long art table. Learning here happens through the hands as much as the head.
-
Outside again
Lessons in the garden
Rain or shine, lessons spill outdoors. In our biodynamic garden, small hands plant, tend and harvest through every season, learning the patience only growing things can teach.
-
Mid-morning
The meadow keeps its secrets
Out in the meadow one morning, a cluster of children found a fawn curled asleep in the tall grass. Nobody had to tell them to be still and gentle. They just knew. On ten acres, there's always something waiting to be noticed.
-
Snack time
A snack they make themselves
The children slice apples for a shared snack, and help set the table for what comes next.
-
Noon
Lunch with Chef Andrew
Chef Andrew cooks a farm-to-table lunch on campus every day. No packed lunches, ever. Here's one week from the menu:
